The band and I are going to be getting back together for one more show to celebrate/mourn the demise of the legendary Portland Club Satyricon on Oct 15 2010 (WW article about the closure). We will be performing with our friends Bingo and Richmond Fontaine. Cover will be $10. Doors open at 8:30pm.
On Saturday, June 19th, a group of local musicians will be
performing the songs of Fernando in a loving tribute to the man who
doesn't like to play so much anymore. I am secretly hoping this
tribute will inspire him to perform again! It was originally intended
as a benefit for a cookbook I am putting together titled Recipes For
Disaster: A Cookbook By and For Portland Musicians. The idea for the ookbook is to draw attention to the lack of health care available to
musicians (and so many others, I know) and proceeds will go toward
the setting-up of a non-profit organization that will run a low-cost
health clinic in Portland, specifically geared toward serving artists
and musicians but treating anyone who needs assistance. As it turns
out, my dear friend and local luminary Jeremy Wilson needs heart
surgery again. He is woefully uninsured and needs to raise the money
to pay for the surgery, so the tribute to Fernando will be a benefit
for Jeremy Wilson instead of said dumb cookbook. We all love Jeremy
very much and hope to raise considerable funds for him.
Performers include Casey Neill, Mike Coykendall, Tahoe Jackson, Lewi
Longmire, Little Sue, Damon Dunning, Joe Chiusano, Dee Settlemier
(Midnight Serenaders), Miss Michael Jodell, Teisha elgerson
(Amelia), Morgan Geer (Drunken Prayer), Jeremy Wilson, Paul Brainard,
From Words to Blows (acoustic duo version), and Michael Berly (The
Yellers).
Please join us. Fernando will be in attendance with his lovely
family, embarrassed and humbled, to be sure. It will be a fun and
moving night of excellent music raising money for a crucial member of
the Portland music community.
Thank you,
Susannah Weaver
